Doggy Dumplings for Dragon Boat Festival

What Festival?

The Dragon Boat Festival, also often known as the Tuen Ng or Duanwu Festival, is a traditional and statutory holiday originating in China. The usual English name for the holiday, “Dragon Boat Festival,” directly translates into two alternative Chinese names for the holiday, Lóngchuánjié and Lóngzhōujié.

The festival now occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional lunar calendar, the source of its alternative name, the Double Fifth Festival.

Gourmet Dog Food from Wagging Rights

Signature jute bag full of goodness!

I’ve been feeding Mango on a half homecooked food diet for his daily meals for a few months now. Kibbles in the morning (half portion) and cooked food in the evening (half portion). Normally I’d prepare about 20 days’ worth of portions and freeze them. This takes me approximately 4 hours to slice/dice/mince/blend/cook/portion.

This is where Wagging Rights come in! I’ve bought meals from them 4 times now, of portions that can last Mango between 20-30 days. Each pack is 200g of sealed goodness. Mango takes half a pack for dinner, so each pack lasts him 2 dinners! This link might help you to calculate how much your dog might need to eat. I halve it because Mango’s still on kibbles for breakfast.

Happy 15th Birthday, Thierry!

Yummy!

Happy 15th Birthday, Thierry!

Today, Thierry turned 15. I’ve had him since he was 1.5years old, after his previous owners (my mum’s ex-colleague) divorced and they said nobody was taking care of him. So…. Mum brought a print out of his photo home and I kind of begged everyone to let me keep him. \o/ Didn’t change his name though. I was 13 then, what do I know of names? But then again, look at Muffin, Snowball and Mango. Not exactly a better job there, either. HAHA!

Mango’s Meatloaf Cake

Meatloaf Cake

So I made a cake for Mango for his 4th birthday. I think I overdid it as it was huge. And he had cake for his dinner for 4 days straight, and that was only 1/3 of the cake because the rest I brought it to the outing on Sunday. I’m assuming this cake can probably feed say…. 10 or more medium sized dogs during a barkday party? Since you don’t feed a full meal from a cake to dogs during a party…

Entire recipe was based on gut feeling! And instructions are my own (with thoughts about my methods used). So feel free to adjust according to your own needs! It’s my first time making a bigger cake and trying to bake it (steamed his cake last year).

Actually, technically, this isn’t really a recipe. Just some notes on how I made the cake. I think the process could be streamlined better? I should probably attempt this again with an easier way to make this.

Read on if you’re curious how I made this cake! Continue reading

Mango Turns 4!

Happy 4th birthday, Mango!

Today, Mango turns 4! Amazing how time flies. And it felt like yesterday when we celebrated his 3rd birthday.

So, I made him a cake like last year’s but bigger. And a little different. But still a cake. Will put up the recipe soon! (Update: Recipe here)
